Artist Statement
프랑스의 드브로이(de Broglie)는 다음과 같이 이야기했다. ‘시공간 속에서 우리의 과거, 현재, 미래는 하나의 덩어리이다. 그 속에서 발생하는 모든 사건들의 앙상블은 보는 이의 인식보다 앞서 존재하고 있다.’ 이것은 시간과 공간의 대등함을 말하는 것이며 이미지의 완전한 표현을 위해서는 공간과 시간을 모두 포함하는 ‘4차원 스냅사진’ 속에 그려 넣어야 할 것이다. 나의 작업은 한 순간도 정지됨이 없이 끊임없이 변화하고 있는 일상과 사회현상 속의 불확실성으로부터 시작된다. 마음속의 생각들은 평면으로 구성된 허구의 이미지로 만들거나 익숙해진 언어로서 백지에 질서정연하게 글로서 표현한다. 그건 이미 대부분 순수성을 잃어버렸거나 정확하지 않고 이미지는 실제 눈으로 확인할 수 있는 사실적인 부분과 눈으로서는 보이지 않는 부분까지 상상하게 만드는 불확실의 사실성이 혼재하고 있다.
이미지는 외부의 대상에 의해 자극을 받은 지각상과 마음에서 자발적으로 일어나는 비교적 복잡한 심상으로 함께 이루어진다. 나는 사진가로서 만들어낸 이미지가 관객이 가지고 있는 각기 다른 마음의 투영을 통해 여러 가지 다른 심상의 앙상블로 만들어지길 원한다. 내가 관객에게 전해줄 내용이나 형식이 따로 정해져 있기 보다는 오히려 그들의 관점에서 자유롭게 해석하고 이해할 수 있는 여유를 주고 싶다. 마치 서로가 상호작용하는 자연현상의 모든 원리처럼 작가는 거꾸로 관객이 되기도 한다. 작업은 도심 안의 길이나 주변을 지나며 우연히 만날 수 있는 평범한 사람들과 함께하는 일상의 사회적 공간이다. 우연과 불확실성 속에서 만나게 되는 대상들은 매 순간순간마다 변화하는 심상을 만든다. 찰나의 순간들로 이루어진 중첩된 공간 안에서 새로운 시간의 앙상블이 만들어지고 그것은 나에게 또 다른 판타지가 된다.
Ensemble of Time
De Broglie of France once said the following. “Our past, present, and future within space-time is one agglomeration. The ensemble of all the events that occur within it exist before the perception of the viewer.” This refers to the equality of time and space, and the complete expression of an image would require a “4-dimensional snapshot” that contains both space and time. My work begins from the uncertainties of everyday life and natural phenomena that continuously changes without a single moment of pause. My thoughts are created into an imaginary image of planar nature or expressed into words neatly on a blank piece of paper as it is a familiar language. Already, most of its purity is lost or inaccurate, and the image is a mixture of the realistic aspects that can be observed with the naked eye and the truth of uncertainty that induces the imagination of aspects that cannot be seen with the eye.
The image is a composition of the percept image generated by the sensory organs stimulated by an external source and the relatively complex imagery produced voluntarily from the mind. As a photographer, my intention is for the audience to see an ensemble of various imagery through the projection of many feelings that the audience possesses from the produced image. There is no intended specific information to be delivered to the audience, thus, the audience are free to interpret from their own perspectives. Just like the interactions of all the principles within nature, the author also becomes the audience at times. Like the image of a piece, whether there is something given and received from whom to whom is completely up to the audience. The contents of the work are ordinary people of everyday life that you can meet by chance while in the city streets and the natural spaces together with me. These materials create a new ensemble within the instant of time and space overlapping each other and this becomes another fantasy of a different imagery to me.
Profile
박정일은 경북대학교 대학원에서 응집물질물리학이론으로 박사를 하고, 나노물리 연구실에서 반도체내의 전자의 양자 수송을 연구하고 있다. 경일대학교 사진영상학과 대학원에서 순수사진을 공부하고 있으며, 시간과 공간 속에서 변화하는 자연과 사회현상에 관심을 가지고 기록하고 있다. 작년에는 홍콩의 민주화 시위현장을 기록한 <Hong Kong 2019 자유를 향한 함성>과, 올해는 <Conical Pendulum>을 각각 전시하였다. 2017년에 세계 3대 인명사전 Marquis Who’s Who에 등재되었다.
